MANAGEMENT TEAM UPDATE

Firstly, we would like to wish all our members happy golfing in 2024.

Just now the weather is not making it easy, with the persistent rain and storms closing courses! Hopefully the weather will improve soon, the courses will reopen, and we can all get out there again.

AGM

We held our AGM at Langdon Hills back in December last year.  It was very well attended by our members! Many thanks to Langdon Hills for having us!  As well as the usual ‘business’ stuff it’s the time when we re-present all the trophies and cups won throughout the year. Our 2023 Champions were

Ladies County Champion – Katy Yates (Frinton GC)

Junior County Champion – Zoe McLean-Tattan (Romford GC)

Seniors County Champion – Wendy Kirkby (Benton Hall GC)

Munro Foursomes – Wanstead (Lorenza de Domenico and Tilly O’Leary)

Silver Shield - Chelmsford

Silver Trophy - Chelmsford

Bronze Shile – Thorndon Park

Harris Bowl – West East

Well played everyone and best of luck of 2024!

Management Team

There have been some changes to the Team.

Elaine Davidson (Stoke by Nayland) has taken over from Sharon Glover as County Captain.  Sharon was a hard working especially with regards to incorporating the Association and has left us in very safe hands with Elaine in charge.  Elaine has been working at County for a while now, as Silver Shield and Trophy organiser and Junior Organiser.   We wish her the best of luck in her new role!

Joise Williams (Langdon Hills) has taken over from Joyce Mcfarlane as County Secretary.  This is almost a full-time job, there is a lot to learn but Josie is certainly up to the challenge, we wish her the absolute best of luck!  We owe Joyce a big thank you for all the hard work and time she had devoted to Essex Ladies.  We are not losing Joyce she is taking up a new position as Welfare Office which will keep her busy in the coming year.

Other changes

Sonja Strutt (Clacton-on-Sea) takes over from Josie as Harris Bowl Organiser and

Sally Newman-Russell (Garon Park) takes over from Anne Coventry as Silver Shield & Silver Trophy organiser. Anne Coventry will be taking up new position looking after the website, social media and communications.

Doubling up

You could say some of the Team are gluttons for punishment! Three of them will be Lady Captain at their respective clubs this year!

Kate Moss took over as Captain at Crondon Park in October! Janice Hazeldine takes on the Captaincy, for the second time, at Rochford Hundred on 6th February and on the same day Sonja Struff takes over at Clacton-on-sea!   Enjoy our year girls!

Our Teams

The County Teams has another good year! We won the East Region County for the second time and the team went through to the National County Finals where the team came 3rd a great achievement well done girls.

Led by Julie Finegan, our Senior Team had a fantastic year winning the East Region Women’s’ Senior League.  This was a great achievement so well done to Julie and her team.

Julie is always on the look out for senior players to strengthen the squad.  If you are 50 or over with a HI index of 9.5 or lower and interested in playing matches against other Counties please contact her at fineganjulie@aol.com for more information.

And finally!

We would like to congratulate June Morgan (Langdon Hills) on being appointed President of the English Schools Golf Association.  June has been and has been involved with the English Schools Golf Association for several years and this is a much deserved appointment.  Well done June and good luck in your new role.
