WOMEN'S COUNTY KNOCKOUT FINALS 2023

The Hunter Foursomes final was played at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club on Sunday October 1st between Judy Wybrow and Lily Frost from Chelmsford and Hoon and Coco Locke from Clacton. The match was very close, with the advantage passing back and forth, so that they were all square after 12 holes. Some tricky holes on the back nine led to Judy and Lily winning 3&2. Janice Hazeldine, who inaugurated the competition, presented the prizes and described how the competition came about. Thanks to Stoke by Nayland for hosting the match,  to Len Goff in his role as rules official and to all the supporters who came to watch.

Another super sunny Sunday on October 8th saw the players gather at Thorndon Park for the Logan Trophy, Gold, Bronze and Hilo Foursomes. The course looked fabulous and the players fought hard with three matches going to extra holes.

The Logan Trophy between Caitlin Abercromby and Daisy Littlebury, both from Chelmsford GC, was a tightly fought match with neither player conceding anything. All square after 18 it took three extra holes before Caitlin got the win.The match was watched and enjoyed by Bridget Logan, who later presented the girls with the trophy and prizes.

The Gold knockout was played between Liz Brown of Warley Park and Megan Dawson of Chelmsford. Megan achieved an early lead of 4up but Liz was not giving in lightly, resulting in them being all square after 18. Determined, Megan secured the win on the first play off hole.

The Bronze match between Lesley Knight from Colne Valley and Gina Macmillan from Lexden Wood swung similarly back and forth, until Gina, at 2 down, dug deep and eventually won 3&2.

The final match, the Hilo Foursomes, was played between Tess Brown and Tracy Kinnane from The Warren and Alison Halls and Sangita Unadkat from Chigwell. Just when it looked like ending, with Chigwell dormie 2, the Warren players staged a comeback to finish all square on 18, so off they went down the 1st again where Tess and Tracy won the hole.

Many thanks go to Iain Evans and his staff at Thorndon Park who looked after us very well and to the rules officials, Joanne, Josie, Peter and Ruth who give the occasion extra gravitas.

Also thanks go to Sharon Glover (County Captain) and Nicola Thomas (County President) who respectively acted as starter and presented the trophies and prizes.

Well done to all the finalists of 2023. See you next year.
