SILVER HANDICAP MEETING - BRAINTREE

The Silver Handicap Meeting was held at Braintree Golf Club on 2rd July and 38 ladies played in what started as a lovely summers day but tested the ladies with a couple of showers and a brisk breeze.

The Medal format was over 18 holes and ladies + to 10.4 HCI were playing for the Sir Herbert Raphael Bowl.  This trophy was first played in 1937 and has been contested for an amazing 86 years.  The worthy winner was Liz Gibson, Chelmsford Golf Club with nett 72.  Runner up was Hoon Lock, Clacton-on-Sea with nett 77 on countback from Teresa Kennedy, Romford Golf Club.

Ladies with HCI from 10.5 to 20.4 played for The Barber Salver, first played in 1964 which was one by Debbie Blundell, Braintree Golf Club with nett 71 and runner up was Mary Goodwin, Braintree Golf Club with nett 72.

The Aggregate Shield, first played in 1936 (87 years ago) was won by Chelmsford Golf Club with best three gross scores totalling 256 – Liz Gibson, Jackie Sleet and Jo MacSween.

Thanks to Braintree Golf Club for hosting this event and providing a course in spectacular condition and offering equally good catering and hospitality.

Thanks also to Linda Freeman our Referee on the day.
