Essex Ladies County Golf

COUNTY JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

The Girls’ Championships took place at Colne Valley Golf Club on Monday 30th May. Fortunately the weather was dry but cool and 18 girls took part.

The competition was over 36 holes and it was Ciara Rushmer of Boyce Hill Golf Club who came in with an excellent score of gross 68 in the morning with Zoe McLean-Tattan of Romford Golf Club not far behind with a gross 71, with the par from the red tees being 71. Amy Knotts of Chigwell Golf Club and last year’s Champion was lying third with gross 77 and Jessica Pugh from Benton Hall was 4th with a gross 79. This was despite one leg being heavily strapped due to a football injury.

The weather continued to stay dry despite extremely dark clouds overhead and it became rather cold, however there were once again some good scores. Ciara maintained her excellent play and came in with 74 and a total of 142 which meant that she had played to level par. Amy had the best score in the afternoon with a 71 and so came second behind Ciara with a total of 148

Zoe was third with a total of 152 and she was awarded the Under 15 Trophy.

Maia Hattrell from West Essex Golf Club had 2 very good nett scores of 71 and 72 and was awarded the Best Nett Trophy with Jessica getting the runner up nett prize with a 69 and 77. Jessica was for the last few holes using her putter as a walking stick so her injury certainly hampered her in the afternoon!!

Colne Valley Golf Course was looking beautiful and in excellent condition and we thank them for hosting the competition and our thanks also go to the 3 referees who were there all day and helping sort out any difficulties with the rules.

Finally we thank the Society of Lady Captains of Essex Golf Clubs (Past and Present) for sponsoring the event and giving the keepsake trophies for the Champion and the Under 15 Champion.
