WI LADIES HAVE THEIR FIRST GOLF LESSON

On a blustery and eventually very wet Sunday, ten ladies from the WI joined Karen, Elaine and Kate at Elsenham World of Golf, for their first golf lesson. The initiative was part of ELCGA's drive to get more women into golf and proved to be not only popular but highly successful. The WI have sponsored the Harris Bowl for a number of years and this year we wanted to thank them by inviting them to come along and try out our sport.  Golf professional Warren Sargeant began with a putting session, where the ladies firstly had to identify their prominent eye, before learning how to line up a putt. Despite really cold conditions, they spent the first hour putting before joining Warren on the range where a swing lesson took place. After hitting a few balls, lunch was ready, which was excellent timing as the rain arrived, and goodness, did it rain! But being a hardy bunch, we were back out on the range where the ladies soon perfected their swings and then became very competitive in terms of the distance they could hit the ball. The session was eventually shortened because of the weather, although some ladies were reluctant to come in.

Our thanks go to Warren for his expertise, to the catering staff for an excellent lunch and to Moyra Jackson and Gill Hathaway from the WI for making it happen. The general conscensus being that we should repeat this again next year, ideally in the Spring with more clement weather.
