It was just starting to rain as the Munro Foursomes got started at Canons Brook yesterday. Two very strong teams Thorndon Park represented by Emily Irons and Sophie Wheeler and Chelmsford represented by Kelly Martin and Liz Gibson.
Both teams got off to a very slow start probably due to the very wet conditions. It was nip and tuck for most of the front nine Chelmsford took a one hold lead early on and maintained it until the 15 when they put on a spurt took two more holes to be three up after the first 18 holes.
The weather was no better at the start of round 2 - the first hole was halves but Thorndon took the next two holes and Chelmsford lead was pulled back to one. Again nip and tuck for a few holes and then Chelmsford slowly pulled in front be 3 up going into 16. Thorndon took the 16th but Chelmsford regrouped for the 17th and took the match 2 and 1.
Well done to both teams for playing in such awful conditions but congratulation to Chelmsford to taking the Shield home with them once again. Thank also for the spectators from both Clubs that braved the conditions.
Grateful thanks to Sandra Goff for referring the match and a very big thank you to Canons Brook first for letting us play on their lovely course and for the wonderful way they looked after us. I am very grateful.
I look forward to next year's competition.
