JUNIOR FINALS DAY AT COLNE VALLEY

Sunday October 6th dawned grey and chilly for the Junior finals at Colne Valley Golf Club. All the competitors in the finals were Chelmsford players which made for a very friendly atmosphere.

The first match out was Caitlin Abercromby, last year’s winner, playing Lily Hawes playing for the Logan Trophy. Lily got off to a strong start and although play ebbed and flowed, Caitlin couldn’t make inroads into the 4 hole lead Lily had by the 7th hole. The match concluded on the 14th hole 5&4.

Second out and playing for the Hitchcock trophy were Beau Newberry and Emily Howells. Both girls put up a good fight and the match ebbed and flowed -  Emily was up several times but Beau got the match back to all square after 17 holes. Unfortunately Beau’s drive found the ditch on the 18th, which put her at a disadvantage on the final hole, so Emily won 1up. It was a close match and both girls should feel proud.

The final match was the Hunter Foursomes contested by Anne Coventry and Katie Walsh against Gill Haysham and Daisy Littlebury. After 8 holes Gill and Daisy were 1 up but by the time they were on the 14th green Anne and Katie were 3 up, that hole having been won with a monster putt sunk by Anne. Halves on the next 2 holes meant the match was won 3&2.

Well done everyone for reaching the finals and congratulations to our winners.

My thanks to the staff at Colne Valley Golf Club for hosting us so well and to Karen Charles for her assistance in setting up the day. Also thanks to the supporters including Bridget Logan and Janice Hazeldine, both of whom were able to present the trophies that they had sponsored.

And here they are

Caitlin, Lily, Emily Katie, Anne, Gill and Daisy
