County second team played against four counties at South Beds golf course over three windy but dry days. The team had a mix of different age groups and as ever, a truly remarkable team spirit, matched by equally remarkable golf. The team really enjoyed the course which had a number of 'quirky' holes, it was certainly a thinkers course, made more challenging by some strong winds.
All was going well until we came up against a determined Beds team, playing on a home course for some, and with three matches going to the 18th and losing one down, we suffered our only loss. That meant all was to play for on the final day, when we were playing Norfolk, who needed to beat us in order to win overall. Beds were not playing on the last morning, but we had a lot of their supporters cheering us on in order to beat Norfolk. The cheers were certainly loud and long when on the first hole of the morning, a long par 3, our lead player Megan Dawson scored her first ever hole in one! Beady eyed Gill Haysham watched the ball roll across the green then disappear, but we had to wait for Megan to walk to the green to confirm it was in the hole. An amazing start and an equally good finish as we won the match 3 -2, much to the delight of Beds.
Congratulations go to hosts Bedfordshire and also to our amazing team of Julie Finegan, Gill Haysham, Sophie Walters, Tiff Wade, Lauren Gowers, Chessie Halling, Lily Hawes, Katie Walsh and our super star Megan Dawson.
