SILVER SHIELD FINAL.

On a gloriously bright but surprisingly cold Sunday, Rochford Hundred and Chelmsford met at Stock Brook Manor in the final of the Silver Shield. The course was presented in great shape and the two teams were evenly matched and both in good form.

At the halfway stage Chelmsford had the edge, up in three games down in one and all square in the other. First to secure a point was Chelmsford with an early finish in game three. Rochford then secured a point from game one which had been closely fought throughout. Chelmsford won game two leaving two pairs fighting for the remaining points. Game four finished on the seventeenth with a win for Rochford. All square with Rochford dormy 3 after 15. Rochford were then dormy 2 after 16 and the spectators from Chelmsford began to see some hope, only for it to be dashed after a superb tee shot on the par three 17th from Rochford, with a par securing the title for Rochford.

It was an excellent final, with a winner hard to predict throughout, it really could have gone either way. Well done to both teams for a great display of golf, all played in great spirit.

My thanks to Jess, Lady Captain at Stock Brook Manor for her kind hospitality throughout the day, Craig for hosting the final and the ladies for their lovely halfway refreshments. And finally a thank you to the rules officials for giving advice and support.
