Silver Handicap meeting
The Silver Handicap Meeting took place this year at Chelmsford Golf Club on Wednesday 20th July 2022. Despite threats of thunder storms and following the hottest day on record the previous day we were fortunate to experience a lovely summers day. The competition was over 18 holes with 34 ladies from 14 clubs across the county competing for three trophies.
The Raphael Bowl was won by Sophie Wheeler from Thorndon Park Golf Cub. Sophie was competing to retain her title for this trophy from last year and did so with a splendid gross score of 77. The Handicap prize in Division 1 was won by Debra Hackshaw from Wanstead Golf Club with 6 pars and a birdie rounding off 36 points. Champagne flowed at the courtesy of Shelly Edkins from Chelmsford Golf Club celebrating a hole in one on the 15th hole and supported a finishing score of 38 points to win the Barber Salver. The Runner Up of Division 2 was won by Susan Watts from Chelmsford Golf Club on countback also with 38 points.
A team event for The Aggregate Shield ran alongside the singles competition and this trophy has been competed for since 1936. The winning team scoring a total of 110 points were Gill Haysham (34), Sue Watts (38) and Shelley Edkins (38) from Chelmsford Golf Club.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to Chelmsford Golf Club for hosting this years event and providing superb conditions on the course following such a dry period of weather and fantastic hospitality.
