Championships Semis and Final
The final day of the Championships started cloudy and a little showery, and all hoped it would not rain heavily. The Seniors’ semi final began at 8.42 between Julie Race of Braintree and Gill Haysham of Chelmsford followed by Amanda Colgate-Herbert of Rochford Hundred and Jo Rumsey also of Rochford Hundred. Julie and Gill were first to finish with Gill taking the match to move into the final and find herself meeting Jo Rumsey in the final after Jo took the match from Amanda.
The Championship semis started immediately behind the Seniors’ with last years Champion Katy Yates from Clacton playing against Ciara Rushmer of Boyce Hill followed by Ashley Chalmers of Thorndon Park and Charley Hatley of Colchester. All players were playing well with games that could have gone either way at the beginning. The first result in was Katy taking the game from Ciara and moving into the final to meet Charley who took her match on the 18th.
The County President Nicola Thomas started the Seniors’ final between Jo Rumsey and Gill Haysham a half hour before starting the Championship final between Katy Yates and Charley Hatley. Each final was accompanied with their own referee and spectators from County and Clubs followed to watch the two games and see last years Seniors’ Champion lose to first time entrant to Championship Gill Haysham. This was not to be in the Championship as Katy Yates retained her title of Champion to beat Charley Hatley, our commiserations go to Jo and Charley with congratulations to Gill and Katy.
