ESSEX 2nd TEAM RESULTS

The Essex Ladies 2nd Team had a convincing win over Cambs & Hunts on Friday 16thAugust, winning 7 ½ to 1 ½ to put them in a very good position for the 2nd Team Finals Day. The team travelled up on the 15th and played 9 holes at Brampton Park Golf Club followed by an overnight stay. The weather on match day was forecast as showers and wind all day and the course was tricky with lots of water, lots of dog-leg holes and very long walks between holes. However, the Essex girls brought their A games. Nikki Byrant and Charley Hatley were the first foursome group out and although they were 3 down through 6 holes they managed to turn the match around and impressively win the match 4/2, giving Essex their first point. Next up was two of the youngest players Ciara Rushmer and Millie Penfold. It was Millie’s first time in the second team and the pair shared laughs and good golf to win 6/4. The final pairing was Amy Knotts and Erin Earl who held their nerve to win 3/1. It was important to get the 3 morning points on the board as the weather got worse and worse as the day went on. 

First out in the singles was Ciara who played solid golf but unfortunately her opponent used her local knowledge on the greens to win 4/3. Next out was Millie who was all square through 16, got unlucky on 17 and went up the 18th one down. Millie held her nerve and holed a superb 30 foot putt to win the 18th hole and halve the match giving Essex half a point. Nikki was next out and although by the end she was struggling to hold onto her clubs (it was that wet), she was up the whole way and won 3/2. Amy Knotts completely white washed her opponent winning 10/8. Amy played fantastic golf and showed real character given that it was also her first time playing in the 2nd Team. Erin was out next as the conditions got worse and the wind picked up which meant it was sideways rain for the last 9 holes. Erin handled the conditions well to win 4/2 and give Essex another point. The final match was Charley who was up the whole way and won 7/6 to give the team their 7th point. Charley is currently undefeated this year in the 2ndteam.

Next up for the 2nd Team is the Finals Day at Barnham Broom Golf Club in Norfolk on Friday 30th August – keep an eye out for our results and we are currently sitting nicely to clench the overall title.
