There was a steady wind blowing at Frinton Golf Club on Friday 24th August for the final of the Logan Trophy between Katy Yates (2) and Charley Hatley (7).
Katy won the toss and the first two holes! Charley pulled one back on the 5th which was a shot hole but Katy came straight back at the 6th. Katy dropped another hole at the 8th and finished the Front 9 one up.
The Back 9 started with wonder flying display from the Red Arrows. It would be good to say this was especially arrange for the final, but even ELCGA could not pull that one off; it was the Frinton Air Show!
Both players put on a great display of chipping and putting. Katy took the 11th to go 2 up and looked very comfortable but Charley found another gear and won the next four holes, sinking some great putts to be 2 up at the 16th. The girls halved the 16th but Charley had a shot up 17, won the hole look the match 3 and 1!
The spectators enjoyed a super round of golf played in the true spirit of the game! Commiserations to Katy and congratulations to Charley who retains the trophy from last year!
Thanks to Frinton Golf Club for hosting the match, special thanks to their Lady Captain Marilyn Clarke for all her help.
