The Hitchcock Trophy final took place Benton Hall Golf Club between Ciara Rushmer (13) and Lauren Gowers (18). The sun was shinning and there was a slight breeze - a perfect day for golf! What a nail-bitter of a match this turned out to be!
Lauren won the toss and decided to let Ciara tee off! The standard of golf was very high, with pars and the odd birdie being the norm.
Lauren made birdie at the 6th, had a shot at the 7th and took the hole to go 2up! Ciara came back at the 8th with a super par but Lauren pulled back at the 9th to go into the back nine still 2up! Lauren and Ciara has played 5 and 4 under par respectively over the front 9! Fantastic and exciting golf!
Lauren took the 10th to go 3up and looked very comfortable, they halved the 11th and then Ciara took 3 of the next four holes to be just one down playing the 16th which was halved in par.
Ciara took the 17th with a another solid par to bring the match all square playing 18! The 18th was the first hole where both girls had made mistakes, obviously the nerves had kicked in. The hole was halved in 6.
With the match all square at 18 the girls and spectators made their way to the 1st for extra holes. Lauren had a shot up the 1st and made good use of it. They both made par and with her shot took the hole and the match.
It had been a wonderful match to watch, great golf played in the true spirit of the game!
Thanks to Bridget Logan for refereeing and to Benton Hall for hosting the match!
