A CELEBRATION OF OUTSTANDING GOLF AT CHELMSFORD GOLF CLUB

Essex Ladies County Championships 2025

The Championships began on Friday 16th May with the qualifying rounds for both the Women’s and Seniors’ competitions. Players tackled a testing course in excellent condition, and by the close of play, the top sixteen qualifiers in each category had secured their places in the knockout stages.

The match play rounds followed over the weekend, with quarter-finals and semi-finals played in a fantastic spirit of competition. On Sunday morning, the four remaining players in each group battled it out in tightly contested semi-finals.

The finals were played on Sunday afternoon and delivered some brilliant golf. Congratulations to our County Champions and runners-up:

Women’s Final: Megan Dawson (Chelmsford) - v - Katy Yates (Clacton)

Seniors’ Final: Tiff Wade (Chelmsford) -v- Gill Haysham (Chelmsford)

A huge thank you goes to Chelmsford Golf Club for their warm hospitality and for providing an immaculate course that tested and rewarded great play. Special thanks to Lady Captain Kerry Foster and the small team of Chelmsford women who acted as ball spotters across all three days. Their dedication and visibility on the course made a real difference in keeping play moving and supporting the players.

The Chelmsford catering team also deserve a special mention – nothing was too much trouble, and their friendly service added to the welcoming atmosphere of the event.

We also extend our sincere thanks to all the referees, whose expertise and calm presence helped the event run smoothly and professionally from start to finish.

This year’s Championship was especially poignant, as it marks the final time the competition will be played under the Essex Ladies banner. From next year, this prestigious event will be part of the newly unified Essex Golf, bringing together the men’s and women’s county organisations to form a single governing body for the sport in the county.

To all who played, volunteered, supported, and celebrated the game – thank you for being part of this memorable milestone
