This year the Women's finals were played at Abridge Golf Club on the 9th of October. This is a new venue for Essex Ladies, and we were very impressed with the Course and the catering provided. We will certainly be looking to hold future events at Abridge and thank them for hosting our Finals.
Fortunately for us the sun shone, and the wind was not too cold! We had three matches to play (the Bronze KO being carried over as Lesley Hitchcock reached the Bronze Final as well as the HiLo Foursomes).
June Morgan from Langdon Hills and Tess Smalley from Stock Brook in the Gold final drove off first. Followed by Amanda Mitchell from Crondon Park and Cherry Clarke also from Stock Brook in the Silver. Last but by no means least Barbara Church & Shelagh Edwards from Burnham and Elaine Davidson & Lesley Hitchcock the HiLo Foursomes.
All the matches were played in the very best of sporting sprit and the winners were June Morgan (Gold) Amanda Mitchell (Silver) and Barbara and Shelagh (HiLo Foursomes)
The Junior and the Women's Bronze Finals were played at Benton Hall on Sunday 16th October. It had been a struggle to find venue for the final this year and I am very grateful to Benton Hall for stepping in at the last minute!
Rosie Salter (HI 6.5) from Thorndon Park and Megan Dawson (HI 3.3) from Chelmsford playing for the Logan Trophy drove off first. Followed by Gill Haysham and Daisy Littlebury (HI 10.7) from Chelmsford playing Carol Franklin and Emily Dixon (HI 2.3) from Thorpe Hall in the Hunter Foursomes. The Bronze Final was contested between Lesley Hitchcock and Celia Larkham from Colne Valley.
Again, the weather was good to us. Rosie and Megan played a very close match, but Rosie took the Logan Trophy! These young women are exceptional players and I am sure we will see more of them in County matches and County Teams in the near future.
Gill Haysham and Daisy Littlebury took the Hunter Foursomes and Lesley Hitchcock the Bronze - second time lucky!
Again, all the matches were played in a wonderful sporting spirit, and we enjoyed a super afternoon of golf.
I would also like to give special thanks to Steve Bonnington and his team of referees (Debs Wolton, Joanne Sheppard, Josie Williams, Len Alliston, Ruth Collins and Ray Benson), who gave up their time to oversee all our matches. Having a referee makes each match that bit more special for the players, and we are very grateful to them.
