SILVER TROPHY FINAL ALMOST A WASHOUT!

The Warren and Chelmsford met at Stoke by Nayland for the final of the Silver Trophy, on what looked like being a sunny and warm autumn day. By the halfway stage it was finely balanced, the Warren up in two, Chelmsford in three, and then the heavens opened. Without any warning torrential rain and thunder caused a short disruption and soaked the players, caddies and spectators. But we’re a hardy lot, so in slightly soggier conditions, the players set off to play the   tough back nine of the Gainsborough course.

Rosie Boyce of Chelmsford was three down at halfway, but managed to pull this back to two by the 12th. But some superb golf from Alison Holborn of the Warren saw her take the match on the 16th.

Jackie Sleet of Chelmsford came up against a very much in form Amanda Warrener of the Warren, with Amanda winning on the 13th.

The Warren had two games in the bag, but the remaining games were looking favourable for Chelmsford. Amanda Dicker beating Holly Pemberton by 3 and 1 on the 17th, quickly followed by Karen Westhorp, also winning by 3 and 1 on the 17th against Liz Moss. Two games apiece.

This left Suzanne Knight and Amy Smith to battle for the trophy. Amy had been 4 down at the turn, 5 down after 12, but pulled this back to just two down after 16. Two superb shots from Suzanne followed by a long putt for a birdie gave her the game and the match to Chelmsford.

It was a truly great final, played in great spirits by both teams, well done to the winners and runners up.
