2012 Essex Ladies’ County Championship and Seniors’ Championship -  Entry form

Upminster Golf Club hosted this year's premier event where we were blessed with excellent weather for the whole three days. The course was in superb condition despite a long period without rain and the Management Team should be congratulated for providing a challenging test of golf on an extended par 72 course. The historic clubhouse proved a popular venue with its welcoming atmosphere and extensive facilities.      

County Championship: Thirty three ladies played 36 holes stroke play on Friday, the Top Qualifier being Daisy Dyer (Chigwell) with a gross score of 149. Fifteen other players joined Daisy to qualify for the 2^nd day's match play - Georgina Blackman (Chelmsford), Gabriella Cowley (West Essex), Dulcie Sverdloff (Thorpe Hall), Charlotte Thompson (Channels), Samantha Lovell (Stock Brook Manor), Ashleigh Greenham (West Essex),   Danielle Anderson (Rochford), Kelly Martin (Chelmsford), Phoebe Cipa (Chelmsford), Sophie Madden (West Essex), Lizzie Taylor (West Essex), Amanda Hartman (Chelmsford), Nicole Shaw (West Essex), Amanda Colgate-Herbert (Rochford) and Joanne Herd (Boyce Hill). On Saturday morning the sixteen competitors played for the eight quarter final places to be contended in the afternoon. After two rounds of match play the semi finalists were Daisy Dyer, Charlotte Thompson, Gabriella Cowley and Ashleigh Greenham.  

The semi finals on Sunday morning resulted in Daisy Dyer successfully completing her match again Charlotte Thompson 5 & 4 and Gabriella Cowley going through against Ashleigh Greenham 3 & 2. The final was closely contested the eventual winner being Daisy Dyer 3 & 2. This victory notches up a second Championship title for Daisy who also won in 2010.

   
 

Seniors Championship - Sally Barber (Thorndon Park)

Seniors County Championship: 18 ladies entered the Seniors' competition playing 18 holes stroke play on Friday with 8 players qualifying for a potential 36 holes match play on Saturday. The final taking place on Sunday afternoon.

The eight qualifiers for the second day were Trish Wilson (Chelmsford), Barbara Watkins (Chigwell), Anne Warwick (Romford), Toni Brockwell (Braintree), Pennie Lipscomb (The Warren), Barbara Noble (Theydon Bois), Wendy Kirkby (Benton Hall) and Sally Barber (Thorndon Park). Toni Brockwell and Sally Barber contended for the Championship title on Sunday afternoon, Sally Barber winning 5 & 3.    

Our grateful thanks go to the management team at Upminster Golf Club, with special thanks to Joan Little (Lady Captain) and her team of willing helpers, without their contribution the Championships would not have been such a success.
