Five Lakes Golf and Country Club proved to be an
ideal venue for this year’s County Championship and Seniors Championship
affording comprehensive facilities and a challenging extended par 74 course.
This coupled with three days of glorious sunshine ensured that the events
were played in the best possible conditions.
County Championship: Twenty
nine ladies played 36 holes stroke play on Friday, the Top Qualifier being
Kelly Martin (Chelmsford) with a gross score of 143, 5 under par for the two
rounds. Sophie Madden (West Essex) shot a fantastic gross 67 in the morning
round but finished with a gross 144 after 36 holes. Other qualifiers going
through to the 2nd days match play were Paige Kemp (Boyce Hill),
Laura Cutler (Warley Park), Gabriella Cowley (West Essex), Daisy Dyer
(Chigwell), Dulcie Sverdloff (Thorpe Hall), Francesca Taylor (Boyce Hill),
Danielle Anderson (Rochford), Samantha Lovell (Stock Brook Manor), Georgina
Blackman (Chelmsford), Charlotte Thompson (Channels), Ashleigh Greenham
(West Essex), Amanda Hartman (Chelmsford), Nicole Shaw (West Essex) and
Amanda Colgate-Herbert (Rochford), On Saturday morning the sixteen
competitors played for the eight quarter final places to be contended in the
afternoon. After two rounds of match play the semi finalists were Kelly
Martin, Laura Cutler, Daisy Dyer and Sophie Madden.

Top Qualifier and Championship

The eight qualifiers for the second day were
Brenda Skudder (Chelmsford), Jo Rumsey (Rochford), Barbara Noble (Theydon

after 18 holes. Jo Rumsey won the 19th hole to become Seniors
Champion 2010.
Our thanks also go to the management team at Five
Lakes Golf & Country Club, with special thanks to Penny Bourner (Lady
Captain) and her team of willing helpers who made us so welcome and without
whose contribution the Championships would not have such a success.
